    Woodworking and baking

I got to do a real quick woodworking project for my daughter's 6th birthday. She wanted a giraffe birthday cake and she loves watching the cake decorating shows on TV, so i thought i would give a shot at making her a cake in the style of those shows. I forgot to take a picture right after i finished the woodworking part, but you can see the wood parts (five dowels and a piece of plywood) in the in progress photo:

The stuff around the neck and on underside are rice crispy treats to add shape. Completed:

I think my daughter was happy with it, and it was a fun little project.

    That is really great looking!

I bet your daughter would just about rather look at it than to eat it!
Also we wish her a Happy Birthday for her 6th.
(BTW, you may want to get into the bakery business...)

Wow, very cool. I'll have to show this to my wife. I'm sure she's gonna want me to try something similar.

Very creative and a great idea for a birthday cake. Not only is there cake, but I see cookies under the tray, but not the edible kind.

I had expected my daughter to not want to cut the giraffe, but she decided to cut it despite being plenty of cake on the base for everyone. Now i have a goofy rear-endless giraffe sitting on my counter staring at me whenever i need to get something out of the cabinet!

Rockler does market bench cookies for the kitchens, so i figured it was safe mixing cake and cookies. The cake was a bit top heavy, so i didn't want to have to slide it or tilt it to pick it up. From when i finished it to when she blew out the candles, i had images of the cake flipping over.

            Thanks for the comments.

WOW that is totally cool! You did a fantastic job. You definitely have a great talent and maybe will get some cake requests from those who attended her party.

I hope she had a wonderful birthday.
