Swinging Crib (of the baby variety)

This was my first successful woodworking project (the Step stool has been attempted twice, unsuccessfully). It's a full-size crib which is suspended from four posts. It's based on my wife's father's design; he makes it out of plywood and bent metal, but I couldn't see that in my otherwise pristine nursery. Also, being able to use a standard size crib mattress was huge.

It's all maple, finished with something called "The Good Stuff", used for maple butcher blocks. The suspension is with steel cable, each rated at 100lbs. If I did it again, I'd use thicker posts instead of the 5/4 I wound up using.

Now if we could only get our son to sleep in there, I might be a bit more awake during the day.

Very unusual Design, and appears to be well excecuted.
Finish is well done and that Little Guy looks like he's really "full of it" (IOW, very active) []

That is the most unusual design I've ever seen. Well done! The little guy sure looks like he enjoys it.

Very interesting design. The posts don't look like there under undo stress, which surprises me a little. Does that thing get to swinging and rocking when the little one jumps around?

                          Looks good.

Will you be able to lower the mattress before he can stand up?
I really am going to make something one of these days.

Wow, I've never seen one like that before. Very Cool.

                              Ditto on lowering the mattress.
