I got to look at them. Mine used to do that - jump back and several others did also.

      1. Is the set screw tight?
      2. Is the large nut behind the handle snug?

My set screw wasn't terribly loose, but I tightened it, anyway. The large nut behind the handle (against the body of the saw) was VERY loose--almost falling off. I snugged that up (had to back it off, I tightened it too much at first) and put everything back together per Hank's GREAT instructions.

        Hi Hank-

Yes- I tightened the set screw in the lever tight on the large nut.
Regarding the large nut- I have it tightened so that the lever only needs to be pushed to the left and that tightens the large nut onto the slot.

The only other thing I can think of is to crawl under and watch the backside from up under as you release the lever and see what is jumping. I did that a couple of times, but my problem was not there. It seems like something behind the front panel might be loose.

I think I fixed it. I loosened the 3 screws holding the gear rack and pushed it down as far as the screw holes would allow and then tightened the screws. It how operates smoothly. I show 3 pics of this and 1 pic of what the gear rack looks like in a BT3100.

            Thanks much.

I don't remember seeing this problem. THANKS for posting the problem and solution! It will probably be a help to someone else.
