    8" vs 6" dado

I'm new to this forum, so first I'll say hello and greetings to all.

My question is this: I believe that the recommended dado size for the BT3 is 6 inches. Is the issue the max RPM, and can an 8 inch dado be used if the max RPM for the dado is not exceded?

    Welcome!

It's not so much the RPM, but mostly clearance issues when using a full stack. Chippers can hit the castings, and the blades could be seated on the arbor threads. I used a narrow spacer when I was using my old 8" craftsman stack on my BTclone.

There are a bunch of threads on Dado stacks in the BT3forum. You ought to PM Loring (LCHIEN) for the FAQ, lots of good info in it.

What does your Owners Manual say about dado blade size? In my experience an Owners Manual should always supersede a lay persons opinion.

This forum is the place to ask questions about getting started in woodworking. Topics like "what tools should I buy" and "what is the best project for a new woodworker" belong here. The phrase "this may be a stupid question" is not allowed here as there are no stupid questions.

the above disussion theead has most of my arguments.
I think the BT3 FAQ has the most complete discussion of the issues. PM me for a copy (see below Sig line.)

            What about?

Does anyone know if the craftsman 315.228110 variant has the same issues with an 8" dado stack?

I believe it's closer to a BT than the 21829. I would assume so.
