  • How many companies does Black and Decker own?

    I'm just wondering about the consolidation of the tool making companies. I don't know how many companies B&D owns - porter cable, delta, stanley?, and who else. And didn't Ridgid buy Ryobi and some other companies?

    I've read notes in the forum with people noting there doesn't seem to be as many tools on sale as there have been in the past, which seems to have been written off as no one was watching the sales. Me, I still watch for bargains - my $ only stretches so far - and I'm not finding much.

    Are we seeing the result of lack of competition?

    According to Wikipedia:

    Black & Decker (the corporation) is distinct from "Black & Decker" the brand; the latter is used by more than one corporation. In particular, "Black & Decker"-branded household products in the Americas (but outside of Brazil) are marketed by a division of Applica, a Florida-based corporation much smaller than Black & Decker Corporation.

    Brands include:

    * DeWalt
    * Porter-Cable
    * Delta Machinery
    * DeVilbiss Air Power
    * Kwikset
    * Baldwin
    * Weiser Lock
    * Price Pfister
    * Emhart Teknologies
    * Oldham Blades
    * Black and Decker Firestorm
    * Vector

      At the end of last year, Stanley announced a merger w/ B&D. Not sure if B&D owns Stanley, or the other way around.

          Stanley paid $4.5 billion for B&D. Being called a merger but obviously Stanley has the upper hand. See This amusing note from Popular Mechanics: http://www.popularmechanics.com/home...s/4335826.html on possible "merged" products.

            I think the guy that named the pry bar "Fubar" should have gotten a bonus for creative use of a profane military acronym.

            What's next, the Snafu sawzall?
