    I feel like a thug.

My kids got this annoying Diego book with a talking pen. (The pen has a sensor for interactive play with the book -- It never worked very well.) We finally got it away from them and tossed the pen into the trash in the garage.

During breakfast we could hear him calling out from the trash bin, "Hola! Hola!" - we forgot to remove the batteries. Of course the kids could hear him, too: "I hear Diego! Where IS he?" And we both had this feeling like we got caught trying to bury someone alive.

Just wait until they find one of their "works of art" hidden in the trash.

I mean, there is only so much room for macaroni pictures and toilet paper tube robots.

Ghost in the machine! Besides, Diego is not a good representative for learning about being a animal rescuer... he's just a spin off of a multi mega billion dollar industry...

That reminds me that I have a doll of my daughter's that needs to disappear. She got it for free at a yard sale yesterday but it broke. My wife doesn't really like it anyway, so it will go to my shop for a while and then be gone.

One of my sisters informed me about toys like that back when her kids were toddlers. She told me that if I ever bought one for one of her kids she would kill me.
I ignored her. Plus I kept a supply of batteries in my car in case during one of my visits one of those toys had died due to lack of power. As kids we teased each other mercilessly. This was my revenge.

We've had that as a guideline for both kids -- nothing battery operated. We know the kids will get battery operated stuff anyway, and they always do, but I think this guideline cuts back on it a lot. Besides, I think you can be a lot more creative with things like unit blocks and legos than you can with a lot of the electronic stuff out there.

The greatest joy of grandchildren. Buying noisy, obnoxious toys that you know your kid will have to listen to!

when i was parenting, noisy obnoxious toys seemed to have very short battery life...
not that i was advserse to putting worn-out batteries in them when no one was looking.

Years ago our next door kids both got "Big Wheel" trykes and at 6am the plastic wheels would wake the devil when ridden on the cement sidewalk in front of our house. Our revenge was to get them toy drum sets for Xmas!
